Disk Utility literally runs fsck_hfs and builds its progress report from
/var/log/fsck_hfs.log.

Undoubtedly so, but why does Apple recommend using Disk Utility instead
of fsck with OS X 10.4 or later <http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417>?

Charles

I think it's because fsck_hfs logs garbage collection in a way that
looks like an error. The "orphaned indirect node" messages could cause
user panic when they're really a harmless filesystem quirk.
