No, you missed the point - Safari already allows you to download the
video files out of YouTube pages. You don't need to install anything.

Open the Activity window (cmd-opt-A), find the page you're interested
in, option-double-click the large file in the list for that page (it
will be called something like "get-video") and it will download. In the
Finder change its extension to ".flv" and QuickTime will play it just
like any other movie.

Just to test this, I downloaded a YouTube video as explained from:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JiJzqXxgxo

Afterwards, I renamed the file to KittenAndCrow.flv and the file's
icon changed to a Flash icon. I then double-clicked it and, for
unknown reasons, it opened:

LIbrary/Documentation/Help/HP Photo and Imaging Help/shrd/
flashplayer

This was version 7 of Flash and it didn't play -- just a blank
window. Knowing that I installed Flash 9 (at least as a plug-in), I
searched for Flash using Command-F and found no Flash application to
drop it on. So I dropped it on QuickTime and QT responded with:

The movie could not be opened.
The file is not a movie file.

Any hints as to what I could have done incorrectly? I'm using 10.5.2
with Software Update completely up-to-date.
