iMac Core Duo weird behavior.

This is an Imac (2006) Core Duo 20 ". 1 Gig of RAM.
No kernel panics, just Finder freezes and garbled image in windows that disappear when you click on them. Weird horizontal lines appear on screen as well, from time to time.
Tried replacing RAM to no avail. Temp of the CPU and GPU are within normal ranges.
Beach ball in Finder that necessitates a reboot.
PRAM and NVRAM have been reset. Any pref files I can get rid of or any other suggestions? TIA
