If i have to get an External USB Modem ( That plugs into a USB Port )
to access dialup Internet Services, What is the Phone Plug next to the
Power Plug for...???

Thanx!

The phone plug is for sending and receiving faxes.

That wouldn't make much sense given that faxes are sent via fax modem.

Seems to me that any Mac model with a phone jack is one of those that
still had a modem built in. The OP doesn't say what model Mac is
involved, but it's also possible that the jack in question is Ethernet
and is being mistaken for a phone jack.

I assumed that the OP properly identified a phone jack, suggesting that
the Macintosh in question was one of those with a built-in modem.

So you assumed that he properly identified a phone jack, but incorrectly
understood that he needed to get an external modem. Why not the other way
around, which would be consistent with all the Macs made in at least 5
years, I think?

Actually I assumed that the OP was somehow under the assumption that an
external modem was needed regardless of the computer having the phone jack. I
also assumed that the OP could properly distinguish between a phone jack and
an ethernet jack.
