Well, I have to say the display of the installed packages to non-admin users
always kind of bugged me anyway.
What Apple needs is a 'ro admin' account. That is, an account that is the
admin
for the purposes of READ ONLY actions. It is so annoying ot have the console
prevent me seeing some logs, and no way to authorize so that I can see them,
so
I have to switch users to my admin. And I don't like being my admin user,
that's why I don't login as the admin user.
Report it as a bug and hopefully they get enough dupes that they fix it in
10.5.3
Now that OS X supports ACLs, they've got better technology to support
this need. It's harder to do with the traditional user/group/others
Unix permissions model.
