Have you tried using Parallels or VMware Fusion to run Windows XP?
You'd still be using XP, but at least you wouldn't have to reboot to
switch between OS X and XP.
Parallels I've now seen and for my needs doesn't really have the advantage
or
convenience that I'm looking for.
I don't understand. Using the BootCamp approach, you have to restart
the Mac in Windows to use the scanner, then reboot again to get back
into OS X, and transferring the scan from Windows to Mac isn't all too
convenient. With Parallels or Fusion you just have to launch Windows,
run the scanner, and you're done with it. How can that possibly not be
more convenient? Oh, and you're not tied to having a partitioned hard
drive, either.
Yes, that's exactly the truth. I'd rather not have to have Windows but for
now I guess I'm stuck with it.
When I find something that matches that scanner (obviously you're more of
aware of my frustration) I'll buy it. Until then, I guess I keep trying. I
keep getting that creepy feeling that my HP 4470c might be buried with me
someday.
I'm curious to know what features of that scanner you're so attached to
that you don't want to replace it with a new one with Mac OS X support.
What I like is that I can scan negatives/slides (yes, I still have and use a
slide projector and I realize it's going out but still available today) then
transfer the images over to the Mac side. What I do is use a USB
flash/thumb/whatever drive to save them on and then reboot into the Mac side
for iPhoto.
The thing is, this scanner (and yes, I realize that the bulb will burn out
someday and likely not be replaceable) does negatives/slides perfectly. Old
negatives that friends/family have dug out of where ever print perfectly.
It's an amazing machine and I've not seen anything close to a replacement yet
I do understand that I will need to. For now, this is all I've got and
well, try to figure out a better way...
