Black MacBook OSX.4.11

Some time ago; i noticed that my In Text Dictionary Feature stopped
working...!
i tried several key comb...

Would i have to completely erase my Hard Drive First.

Only if you want to do so, of course.

On my old Performa 460, to reinstall the OS, you had to reinstall
EVERYTHING, including all the original software...!!!

So that wasn't ( although it may have seemed like it ) a dumb
question.

Things have changed significantly since then:

<http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301270>

So you seem to be suggesting that there is an easy fix to this...???

Well there might have been, and may still be, yes. Then again, you've
made the job of diagnosing the problem harder, because rather than
stopping and analizing the problem, you went and performed umpteen tasks
and restarts, which changes the environment significantly.

i'm sure that i can easily reproduce the error, and that would appear
on these 'logs' of which i think i may have glanced at, ( sounds
familiar )
But of course, i would have no idea what i was looking at, or what to
look for, or how to fix it, if i did.

Isn't that what Usenet is for?

As a General Purpose Question:
What is the correct procedure when a problem like this occurs?

eh?

Well, for starters, don't start throwing the "kitchen sink" fixes (like
restarting, repairing permissions, and so on) at a problem you don't
know anything about! That is - not if you really want to find out what
is *causing* the problem.

Instead: Stop. Take a breath. Use Google to do a little research about
the problem. If you don't find anything helpful, ask for some help here.
And don't throw the kitchen sink at the problem while you wait for
replies. Have patience. ; )

i think you're assuming way too much.

what i look for on the internet...???
"SpotLight Doesn't Work Macintosh MacBook" ???

If i were to find these logs ??? ( where do access them...? i forget )
And what would i be looking for ( in some general sense... )
Would there be some kind of smoking gun...???

And speaking of general solutions; what is wrong with my In Text
Dictionary thinger that stopped working a couple of months ago...

How do you fix something like that, if not with an all purpose OS
reinstall?

i'm a complete Blank on this; as imaginative as i am, i can not
imagine anything that i could do to fix small (?) problems like this,
except for the few tricks that i've tried...

What really.
Really now.
Really and Really.

What is the correct procedure for solving simple problems when a
program is malfunctioning.
If it was Pages, i would just reinstall Pages, but SpotLight is an
integrated function with the OS isn't it...???

You will come to find that JR is nothing more than a know nothing windbag,
who wants you to beg for information. He doesn't have a clue. Go to:
comp.sys.mac. advocacy. The people there are much more willing to share
info, than the blowhard macShitheads here.

So i subscribed to that group, and it seems VERY BUSY, And with all
different names...???
That's why i've always used this group, even though some of the users
have been VERY MEAN TO ME...!!!

Thanx for the tip...!!!
.
