It might be because the creator neglected to set the "monospaced" bit
in the font characteristics table. The fact that the characters all
happen to be the same width won't automatically trigger it being found
as fixed-width; however, setting the monospaced trait will, whether
that accurately reflects the character widths or not.

Ok the developer of FintDoc explained it to me:

""Fun" and "Fixed Width" are nothing more than Mac OS X font
collections, which you can manage with Apple's Font Book or directly in
the standard Font panel itself (such as is used in TextEdit, for
instance). There's no magic to them. Apple happens to supply a certain
set of fonts with Mac OS X, and it pre-installs some of them in the
"Fixed Width" category. If you install another fixed width font, you
have to add it into the collection yourself."

So it looks like you'll have to open Font Book, and drag all of your
monospaced fonts into "Fixed Width".
