Installing Oracle on mac os 10.5.1 non-server

Hi,

I downloaded the Oracle 10.1 client and database files and processed
them according to instructions up to the point where (you have to be
familiar with this procedure) you've done the cpio command on each.

I don't know what to do next because I don't have the Mac server
installed and the installation documentation refers to things that
only exist if you have the server installed (for example the name
of your node). In other words, if you're familiar with Oracle, you
can't set up the tnsnames.ora describing your installation, so
client doesn't know where server is, server doesn't know where
client is.

Has anybody successfully installed Oracle 10.1 client and database
on a mac with 10.5.1 but not with server software installed? I want
the
client and server to be on the same box.

I'll try to post this also on an Oracle group as well.

Hope this makes sense to someone!

Thanks for any help. It would be a big plus for me an
Oracle contract programmer to have a recent Oracle
installed at home so I can test stuff out and learn new
features.

Ken
