Re: How can I delete *selected files* from Trash

I know you don't have to empty the trash right away ie within seconds,
but some people above stated that's exactly what they do. The
original question for this thread was 'how do I do this and this with
the trash bin' and everyone jumped on him telling him he was using it
wrong. Most instructed him to delete things soon if not immediately
and use other means to recover/preserve files.

But to me, the whole point is what to do in case you discover you need
a file that you've accidentally or mistakenly deleted. Hopefully the
file still exists somewhere else, whether it's in Time Machine or a
backup drive or storage folder or ........ the trash bin. I know, I
know, "Heresy!" but functionally, for this purpose, what's the
difference? What if I just name my backup drive "Trash", does that
make it evil now? Why bother with a backup drive or system (for this
purpose) if you are always so careful about what you keep and what you
throw away?

If you did delete something by mistake, that means it was
unintentional. So it's impossible to predict when you'll find out you
really needed it, whether it's an hour later, a day, a week, etc. So
deciding how often you personally empty the trash is really
arbitrary. If you do it too rarely, you can say it becomes a storage
folder. But too often, and its existence becomes pointless.

But, if I'm missing a file, or if I need more disc space, I know
exactly where to go. I just think, like the guy who started this
thread, it would be nice if Apple provided a little more flexibility,
so I might say perma-kill the largest or oldest files first, instead
of one blind sweep. To color-code files, or have to create a storage
folder, effectively creating my own customized trash bin, is
ridiculous. So is needing an unfamiliar third-party program to do
what my $100 native OS could have easily provided.

I hate to say it, but this is one aspect that PC and others got right.

"Heresy!"
