The trash, since the first Macintosh (or was it in Lisa) was designed as
temporary holding place for documents you have decided you will want to
delete in the future but still give you the chance to rescue should the
need be (until you irrevocably empty it).
My philosophy is to throw stuff in the trash to cleanyup my desktop,
wait a while in case I might decide I need those and eventually empty
the trash.
Ideally, I would like to have "empty trash /before=date, which would
empty all the documents put in the trash last week, but keep those that
were put there this week (for instance).
