Whatever you do, do NOT remove items from the "Search For" column. I thought
that they were just "pointers", like alias icons. Boy was I pissed!
Could you explain? Removing items from the sidebar should not result in
their deletion. You should be able to restore the built-in "Search For"
items using Finder Preferences. Other items, including saved search
queries, can be added to the sidebar by dragging them there.
I removed _all_ those "search for" things from my sidebar. Nothing bad
seems to have happened.
Yeah. But you didn't empty the trash with them.
I did the same as Warren. Emptied trash and everything. No problems
whatsoever. The sidebar is for shortcuts to assorted things, why would
deleting them cause a problem?
It wouldn't.
App, my Firefox and my complete M$ Office Apps that were in the "search For"
subheading for that day. It happened to me. Wish it didn't, but it did.
So you didn't remove items from the Search For side bar. You clicked an
item in the Search For side bar, and then removed items from the
resulting Finder search results. There's quite a difference between
those two actions.
