What is happening? What can be done about it?

partitions that to not mount are both journaled. I am trying to figure out
how to unjournal these partitions, but I do not know how.
Please, someone, I need a brief course in journaling.

So the icons don't appear on the desktop. Do they appear in the sidebar?
I had a situation recently when *nothing* appeared on my desktop as
icons (not just hard drives missing, but files and folders too). I cured
this by deleting the com.apple.finder.plist. Naturally I had to reset a
few items in the Finder Preferences after doing this.
