Have you been reading Apple's support forums or the press? These
identical symptoms are too widespread to be something on my system.
This is a Leopard problem.
<shrug> I'm still sitting at zero crashes on both of my macs. Not "few,"
zero.
I have not been able to get a stable install on my G5 Dual -- no problems
on my MacBook. My first G5 install seemed mostly OK, but the disk it was
on then went bad (whether from the install or not I have no clue; it is
unusable now). Subsequent tries were all failures. I've stopped trying.
I own a dual 2 GHz G5. I couldn't get it installed on my G5 either, due
to installer crashes (I posted here about it). But after removing most
of the RAM, the problem vanished. I'm pretty sure one or more of the RAM
chips I have installed in the G5 is the cause.
Note: Once I got it installed successfully, I was able to put the RAM
back in and use the machine with the faulty RAM. I'll be running some
tests, when I have time, to see if I can pin down which of the eight
freaking chips is the culprit. The problem is, even in single user mode,
the OS uses a certain amount of RAM, and if the faulty RAM happens to be
in use, no amount of testing ill find it.
If there were a device I could purchase that I could plug a stick of RAM
into to test it completely, I'd be interested in tit. Does anyone know
if such a thing exists?
