Mail would need a major overhaul in terms of its horrible
handling of threading- for example, if you set it for threading
e-mails it opens each e-mail in a separate window simultaneously.

Yes. As you probably know, to avoid all messages opening you'd
have to hit the down arrow key after you select the thread so that
instead of all messages being selected only one is selected.
Disappointingly, there Mail has no shortcut to move from one open
message to the message immediately before or after it (like
spacebar shortcut in MT). Am I wrong on this?

It appears to me that you and Tim are viewing the messages in their
own windows rather than viewing them in the message pane below the
message list.

Yes, I detest the 3-pane interface. It's just too claustrophobic; I
read quickly enough that having just those few lines visible at a time
is a darned nuisance. This is exacerbated by having a 12" iBook. In
any case, it *ought* to work correctly regardless. Proper handling of
threads is neither new nor rocket science.

I am baffled that anyone who doesn't sound out words as they read- which
presumably ought to cover anyone who can use a computer- can find the
three pane interface tolerable.

If you read the messages in the message pane, pressing the space bar
when you're at the bottom of the message will display the next
message. Pressing the delete key at any point will delete the
message and display the next message.

Pressing the delete key basically does the same thing in either view.
The space bar shortcut doesn't work if you read the messages in their
own windows.

Basically, I wish that either (1) Mail worked like MT-NW or that (2)
Simon would add POP/IMAP to MT-NW.
