So your backup isn't bootable. Why do you continue to confuse people

your horrible use of the English language?
I'm not a Mark fan either, but you're being semantically silly. I make
disk images using hdiutil(1) or Disk Utility, they're not directly
bootable, you can't boot from a .dmg file, you have to be pre-booted
somewhere and then you have to "restore" it somewhere where you can boot
from it, but I still think about it as a "bootable image" or a "bootable
clone" if that's what it was. Of course if it's a Schrodinger's Clone,
then it might go away if you mount it, or maybe not.
I come from the days of bootable tape backups. If something is labelled or
otherwise referred to as bootable around here it means that the boot loader
of whatever system I am sitting at can boot from the device, whether that is
a CD/DVD, a thumbdrive, another harddrive partition, the network, a
tapedrive or a Schrodinger's Clone.
A backup that is bootable once it is restored is simply just a backup.
