Thanks! Now I have to wait until I see it again; it is not there now.
Did you try the "arp -a" command anyway. The information can remain in the arp tables even after the machine is no longer there. (But if you've rebooted your Mac that will clear the arp table.
Good grief. I did enter the MAC addresses of our 3 computers and they
all show up as assigned to Apple Computer. What a handy web site that
is... thanks.
Well, it's handy for cases like Apple which have their own network interface devices. But for other machines you won't get such helpful answers. For example the internal interface for my firewall box, a soerkris 4801, give me "SiByte, Inc" which doesn't really help that much, on the other hand the MAC for my Wii does return Nintendo.
Maybe it is some kind of anomaly. I thought the Leopard installs went
well but there are a few glitches like on my husband's iBook, there is a
question mark instead of a Download spot on the Dock.
I found that on my wife's machine, the Dock was filled with question marks until each of the applications was started. But that didn't happen on the other machines. I forgot about that until you mentioned this.
I realize that is not related but maybe there are some glitches. I did lose the entire network at one point. That certainly never happened in Panther to me (skipped Tiger). It would not even accept my network password. But it came back online after I shut down and restarted my computer.
As I've said before. I've had far more minor glitches in my move from 10.4 to 10.5 than I've had with any other 10.N to 10.N+1 move. But I would be surprised if the mystery machine on your net was a consequence of that. On the other hand, the situation is rather surprising.
