That article struck me as a bit hysterical, reading a conspiracy into
what seems to me a difference of opinion. And it does quote the

Macjournals damaged their own reputation more than they damaged Macfixit
with that article.

You have a point on the editorializing (ie - "Despicable MacFixit". Had
Macjournals merely stuck to the facts or even expert opinion, the
article would certainly have been more professional and less hyperbolic.

However, though I am merely a long-term Mac user as opposed to a techie,
even I was surprised at some of the advice on Macfixit's Reinstall
tutorial--- especially the parts where it instructs readers that they
must uncheck the "preserve users and network settings" on an "archive &
install" or the instructions for migrating "stuff" (old apps,
preferences and resources) from the Previous System folder to the "new,
clean" directories. The latter seemed at least somewhat cavalier to me.
In all fairness, the piece is titled as a "reinstall" tutorial but there
isn't any tutorial for system upgrade-installs that I could locate. So
most people are bound to use the "reinstall" one.
