Are G5s throwaway junk?
Well getting back to the original query........:)
So you noticed too that some people are more prone to insults, trying
to beat around teh bush as much as try can, making as noise as
possible to make the issue unclear. Interresting.
Is it possible to use other heat sinks on those CPU's and cool them by
air? Check out the Scythe Ninja and some Tuniq and Thermaltake heat
sinks with heat pipes for top end air cooled performance. Combined
with a 120mm fan running at 12 volts, it should provide good cooling
though I do remember those CPU's running mighty hot. The Scythe can
use 2 fans (1 on each side of the heat sink). Make sure almost 100%
of the air going to those CPU fans is coming from the outside of the
case and not being drawn in from the interior (warmed air) of the
case. Its pretty stupid to attempt to cool something with warm air.
My dear New Guy, maybe it would be possible, though if a liquid
cooling system was first installed, the processor must run mighty hot.
"The Power Mac G5 line in 2006 consisted of three, dual-core PowerPC
G5 configurations, operating at 2.0, 2.3, and a dual-processor 2.5 GHz
configuration (the dual contains four cores in total, two per
processor). A 2.7 GHz single-core model was also released. The G5
processor is a common name given by Apple to several different chips
manufactured by IBM: the PowerPC 970, 970FX, and 970MP, based upon
IBM¹s POWER4 processor."

And this was 90 nm technology! (The first processors were 130 nm.) Did
you say hot? It was completely crazy from the start.
Given the price Mac users pay for their computers do you figure it is
for them to take care of these problems? Recall or replace the
scraps, the result of Steve Jobs' pursuit of personal power
despite physical impossibility! Unfortunately, there was a risk and
users were never told.
Well I Googled it a bit and didn't find anything. Best to search
specific forums. I mentioned those heat sinks because that level of
air cooling was not available when the G5 was designed. The one to
use would be the Scythe Ninja with 2 120mm fans (1 on each side of the
heat sink). And you have to use 1 heatsink for each CPU of course so
we're talking 4 fans. It would be a little noisy. But not a high
pitched whine like hard drives can make. Or just rip out the Apple
water cooling and put in an after market one. As long as you can get
the water cooled plate/device to fit you're home free. Its an
expensive machine and still up there in performance so its definitely
worth it to explore your options if the warranty has expired.
