Ha. That's the theory. In practice, every component interacts with
every other, often in unexpected ways.
When a hardware manufacturer provides a video driver for Mac or
Windows, it should work for Mac or Windows. If the bus on the
motherboard is not compatible with the video card, I'm afraid the card
will never work.
Or the card will seem to work, but unreliably. Or the card will work
fine but some other apparently unrelated component will fail as a result.
But Dell and Gateway are pretty much like a Mac is now. The basic
Windows is so much modified that only their own version of Windows
will run on their very peculiar hardware.
No, it isn't. You can (and many do) run bog standard Windows on Dells
and Gateways.
