Hi All,
I have 2 discarded old macs, an iMac running OS9.1 and a G3 running
10.x. The G3 takes a whole day to boot while the iMac takes a few
minutes. My problem is that after trying to add new users then
deleting them I cannot log in again since I never had the original
owner's password and the two computers keep asking for them.
But, from what you say, I gather that you can shutdown and work the
machines again. So they must be set to autologin.
For the G3 look at my post in the other thread. The user will be an
admin user, who can set up another admin user with a suitable password.
Then log in as the other user and change the password on the original
account. See the discussion in the other thread about how this affects
the keychain.
For OS 9, try deleting all the Multi-User items in the preferences.

Hi All,
Thanks for the replies. The problem for both machines is the same, I
cannot get pass the login screen..
On the iMac I cannot login. Apparently after deleting the new users I
added, the computer is now asking for the previous owner's password
while before it booted without asking for the password.
The G3 does not go beyond the login screen, it asks for the password.
Thanks for your time and knowledge.
