There was a time (pre robust dd backup scheme) when I thought "Mark
Conrad" was just ignorant. Several of us expended considerable effort
trying to educate him on the difference between a unix command, its
switches, and its parameters, while urging him to try for some basic
understanding of the unix toolset. His response was that he couldn't
learn from 'man' pages because they lack the complete examples to solve
his problem of the moment. He further bragged that he intended to
continue this 'Idiot's apprentice' approach since it pushed all the
thinking onto the group and required none on his part, a role he seemed
well qualified for :-)
As a result, I began to lace helpful responses to his (mostly) idiotic
requests with increasingly pointed barbs at his laziness and disrespect
for those who were honestly trying to help him. His response was to
castigate those who were trying to help him, and pose increasingly
ridiculous situations, which drew even more fire. I guess that behavior
continues unabated. I don't know. I killfiled him weeks ago.
Requiescat in pace.
