there's not much more to say.
i take a TextEdit doc... paste my own icon on it.
a couple hours later... a day later... a couple days
later... it reverts back to the normal TextEdit icon.

sometimes they actually do stick for good.
beats me why.

Maybe because at some point you did a File > Save As, which overwrites the file.
