Those things used to be all the rage. But big hard drives are now so
cheap they're not worth it any more. I'm serious: cost out the two
solutions (DVDs + burner + carousel vs. hard disk) and you'll see it's
cheaper to just store the files on a hard disk.
But the large disk drives won't meet the SOX/HIPPA "unalterable media"
requirements for log files and other data. A DVD carousel will.
Sorry, but you're wrong, and a closer reading of the requirements will
explain why. A DVD carousel is /not/ compliant with HIPPA because the
DVDs in the carousel can be replaced with different DVDs: the media can be
altered. Any DVDs you're using for HIPPA reasons must be kept in a secure
environment and /not/ accessible to office-floor employees.
So if you're
trying to satisfy SOX/HIPPA /and/ provide access to that information to
your employees your best bet is probably to do both.
Simon.
