Connecting to Airport after Sleep

On MBP the 2 GHz one, I generally manually "sleep" it when I'm away for a bit. Recently, perhaps after the last Software update, perhaps unrelated, it takes quite a bit of time to either find or make active my little home LAN. I also recently put in a Password which would also seem suspect, but from near instant connection to over 15 seconds, it makes me think something needs resetting. (?)
