In a month or so I'm gonna get a Macbook Pro (2.33, or 2.4)
This going to be a whole new adventure. It's gonna change
the way i do things and think about everything.
My mind is reeling with possibilities.
Of course i would like to access my entire system (media and
apps) from off site.
And I've never worked with two monitors before.
I'd really appreciate your thoughts on how i can use this
system... anything you think might be helpful.
Thanks everyone for your assistance over the years.

If you want full connections to your other file, file sharing,
file transfers, as well as controlling the keyboard, monitor, and
mouse, then maybe look at something like "HamachiX" (do a google
search), to set up a private network across the internet.
Once you have a private network, you should be able to do file
sharing and file transfers.
For the keyboard, monitor, and mouse, you could look at using VNC
(Vine Server on the there remove, and Chicken of the VNC on the
Mac at your finger tips). HamachiX should handle all the router
issues for you.
Or you could look at the LogMeIn.com MacOSX beta. It seems to do
a passable job of providing remote keyboard, monitor, mouse access
to a remote Mac.
You can still use VNC and/or LogMeIn.com without HamachiX.
LogMeIn.com deals very well with getting through home routers
without any special setups.
VNC on the other hand has issues get through home routers. It
requires some port forwarding setups in the home routers. On top
of that VNC does not provide any data encryption of the
information transmitted, so it is often a good idea to tunnel VNC
over an SSH connection.
NOTE: I use VNC over SSH through home routers that have port
forwarding setup. So I'm not trying to bad mouth VNC. It is just
a bit more work to get setup in a secure manager. And of course
it only deals with keyboard, monitor, mouse. File sharing and
file transfer are left for other methods (of course if you get SSH
working, it has a very nice secure file transfer method).

Thanks Bob,
But i'm afraid that i'm too uninformed to make much use
of your information.
It sounds like i have a lot to learn.
I was hoping that Timbuktu or Apple Remote Access would
do what i need.
Do you know of some URL or doc that explains thoroughly
(for dummies) what i need to know to make this work?
thanks
