Well, one of my happier days was when I realized that I really didn't
need two computers (laptop and base station), and all the synching and
software maintenance hassles: the laptop was enough for everything. So,
for several years the base station has been the laptop, surrounding by
lots of peripherals: external mouse and keyboard, big monitor, printer,
scanner, backup drives, and so on -- and when I want to go somewhere
(traveling, or even just to the living room), the laptop just goes with
me. The peripherals are all either wireless or connected through one
larger capacity USB hub, so that the laptop disconnect/reconnect routine
involves only external power cable, a single USB cable to the hub, and
the external monitor cable. What I save on having just one computer I
spend on software, peripherals, and added internal memory and HD
capacity for the laptop.
