Tonight I did some cleaning using Tiger Cache Cleaner, and afterward I
noticed that some of the menus in my apps were a lot wider (e.g.,
bookmarks and window menus in Safari). How can I fix this and get them
back to normal?
This likely has nothing at all to do with caches. Go into Safari and
close the window that has the longest title, then edit the titles of
your bookmarks so the titles aren't so long. The menus are wide
because you have items with long titles in them.
I tried this, and it didn't work. Safari's Window menu still shows the
the full title of a website, even after I've edited its name in the
bookmarks. The bookmark menu is also still wide, even after I hand
edited the lengths of the names. Note that the Message menu in Mail is
also very wide. It looks like the way info in menus is handled somehow
got changed. And it was not cache cleaning that I did in TCC: it was
doing stuff with symbolic links, the Locate database, Spotlight
metadata, the LS database, and OS X customization (window updating and
enabling the Cut option in the Finder). I turned off the customization
settings (I suspect these are the culprits) and cleaned the Finder, but
the problem persists. Perhaps a prefs file is to blame?
