Here's the problem. AT&T is making changes to their e-mail system so as
to increase security. She has received instructions about changing her
e-mail settings. The instructions indicate that the POP and SMPT server
names in Eudora are to be changed. No problem. I can do that. The
instructions go on to say, "Check the option labeled 'Use an encrypted
connection (SSL)' and change the SMTP port to 465." Similarly, the POP3
port should be changed to 995.
I think I could manage to find the port settings on my own OS X
computer, but I see no way to change port settings in Eudora on OS9. Can
anyone give me some advice so that my mother-in- law can continue to use
her current e-mail setup?
If she's running Eudora in Paid mode, the SSL settings should be near the
bottom of the category list in the Settings dialog. SSL isn't supported in
Free mode, and Sponsored mode is no longer supported for versions older
than 6.2.4, which only runs on OS X.
The port settings are hidden. To get access to them, you have to install
the "Esoteric Settings" plugin, which can be found in Eudora's "Extras"
folder. Copy or drag it to the "Plugins" folder, and it'll add a Ports &
Protocols category to the Settings dialog.
