(in article <C27CC4D8.3628A%oscar@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>):
Where can one ask questions about the very OLD OS 9.2?
What do you want to know?
Some background. I got a PowerMac G4 (AGP Graphics) with MacOS X (10.3.9)
already installed. I installed OS 9.1. I wanted to completely erase the
Hardisk with the installation CD for OS 9.1 but that did not happen. So I
have this G4 with OS 10.3.9 and 9.1 (which I upgraded to 9.2.2.) I can make
the G4 to boot natively in 9.2.2.
Now the questions.
1) How do I erase OS 10.3.9 safely from the G4 without disturbing anything
for 9.2.2?
Boot in OS 9, delete everything you see _EXCEPT_ the System Folder (NOT the
System folder), the Applications (OS 9) folder, (make sure that all your OS 9
apps really are in the Applications (OS 9) folder...) and the Users folder.
Alternatively, back up the all your OS 9 apps and the data for them, and the
System Folder, reformat the drive, restore your stuff from backup.
2) How do I configure the OS 9.2.2 so that I can transfer files with another
Mac (G5 with 10.4.9) that I have?
In File Sharing, make sure that TCP sharing is enabled. You might want to
look here: <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106657> or here:
<http://www.apple.com/support/macos9/>
If Target Disk mode is an option, that would be easier than doing the
File Sharing thing.
