What I'm really looking for is whether or not it could be causing the
wake-from-sleep problems.

Here's my question - Could this be causing my problems with crashing
during sleep? It will not wake. It used to be intermittent, but I now
have to leave it on without sleep, and shut it off manually.
Or perhaps its the power supply like I fear.
Try a new battery first. My Imac G3 was kinda like that when
its battery finally quit. your lost time is a dead (no pun) giveaway.
