That's right.
For example, the disks that come with my new iMac contain OS 10.4.8,
so if I had to erase my drive, I'd have to install the OS 10.4.8 from
the CDs first before being able to download 10.4.9 from the Apple
site.
Well, that's a given; I was referring, though, to peripherals. I
recently bought a new all-in-one printer/scanner/copier/FAX. I
installed the and apps from the CD that came with it, and then
downloaded the most recent version, and installed it.
I don't see the point of installing old versions of drivers etc. when newer versions are available. In fact, I have experiences where doing so caused problems that would have been avoided had I simply installed the latest version to begin with. The safest bet is to install the latest version.
