Would a Duo Core Mac Mini with CS3 and memory upgraded to 1.5 or 2 GB as you reommended above be good enough for a business? For a graphics professional who frequently uses big, 300 DPI Photoshop files?

A PC expert and friend of mine told me a Mac Mini isn't powerful enough for my big, 300-DPI TIFFs.

Your PC expert friend needs to check his facts. :)

Will it let you work on large TIFF files? Yes. Is it the best possible Photoshop machine? No, it's not--but when you're building a Photoshop machine, the only thing that goes farther than money is more money.

I've worked with large, high-resolution Photoshop files on less capable hardware, let's put it that way.

Thanks, Tacit (and you other guys for your generous support).

I decided to buy an Imac instead of a Mini Mac because it was reommended here to add more RAM to a Mac Mini for running Photoshop.

I realized after researchng the specs that I'd also have to exchange the Mac MIni's hard drive for a bigger one because the standard Mac Mini drives are only puny 60- or 80-gig drives. (I already have 62 gigs worth of data on my current, main G4 drive so even an 80-gig drive isn't big enough.

As a consequence of the add-ons, the Mini Mac would cost almost as much as an Imac, and because the Imacs have a monitor built into them, the Imacs are a better deal.

And then I thought: if I'm getting an Imac anyway, I might as well spend a few hundred extra dollars and get a 20-incher instead of a 17-incher so I have a bigger screen than my current 17-inch Viewsonic. I figure the increased screen size should pay for itself because my productivity will be boosted.

But I decided to stop short of buying a 24-incher because it's even pricier than a 20-incher and I still have to upgrade to CS3 so Photoshop will be sped on the new Imac's Intel drive.
