A simple yes or no would have sufficed, but no doubt you just enjoy

I apologise for the name-calling. A horrendous headache made me very
irritable and it was foolish of me to be reading newsgroups in that
condition.

Not really. If I had known the answer, I would have said either yes or no.
But I don't know the answer, because I don't use Windows.

Yet you answered the original question about virus protection with:
"Absolutely. Windows running in VPC or on a Dell is still the same
Windows. "
That seems to me to be a definitive answer from someone who knows what
they are talking about.

I was
*helping* you by suggesting you ask Windows-related questions in a
Windows newsgroup.

1) There are lots of windows newsgroups, so if you had really wanted to
be helpful you could have suggested specific ones. Just pointing in
the general direction of windows newsgroups and saying 'go there' is
was the same to me as just saying 'go away'.

2) Your basic 'advice' to go away was wrong. There is a good chance
that people in a Mac newsgroup will have run windows on VPC and that
they (like me) wouldn't bother setting up VPC to share the Mac internet
connection. On the other hand, many of those reading & posting in a
windows newsgroup will have no experience of running windows with no
internet connection. So the answer to my question could be just as
likely to come from this newsgroup as from a windows newsgroup.
