Kensington Wireless Desk Top Mouse died

I have the above mouse on my MacBookPro. It has stopped working. The
red light on the mouse is on and I have changed the batteries a couple
of times. The keyboard still works. Looking at the round receiver
thingy that goes into the USB port, the lights that shows a signal is
being received blinks when I use the keyboard (in fact it looks like
both the keyboard and mouse sides light up when I use the keyboard) but
I get no response when I move around the mouse. I have tried the mouse
at many areas on my desk thinking that maybe it was just a reception
problem, but to no avail.
Are there any suggestions on troubleshooting this or do I need to
just get a new or maybe a new receiver thingy? Is there are more
appropriate fora for this question?
