Re: Azureus suddenly stops

If you never see a green face, you've got a NAT problem.

So you can have NAT problem and still be downloading, just not as fast
as you could be? On the bottom of the window there is a green circle
and it says NAT OK but there are no green faces beside any of the
torrents. Just all yellow.

My share ratio should be high as I don't limit the upload speed,
though I do try to stop the torrents as soon as possible as my ISP is
sensitive to uploading traffic. Perhaps that affects the share ratio?
In that I'm not seeding as long as I could?

Try restricting your upload speed to about 45 or 50K. Water runs uphill
in both directions in this pipe. If you're not using private trackers,
you probably won't get banned, unless you've got an identifiable static
ip, and even then ...

By restricting the upload speed, what do I do?

I have the firewall up on everything. I thought that if the firewall
restricted Azureus I would get no traffic at all. So I assumed that
because Azureus is working (albeit slow at times) the firewall
settings were fine. Perhaps not?

You have to actually open the ports (the ones you've specified in the
Azureus' Preferences/Connection); use a high port -- I use 49026 for
both, you could too. Then you have to allow traffic in on those ports in
your Apple firewall. Go to System Preferences/Sharing/Firewall and
create a New rule, call it Azureus (or whatever) and tell it what ports
you want to use. In Azureus/Azureus there's a NAT test to try.

Wow - my speed is about 4 times average before. So the problem was
that I didn't forward the port with OS X's software Firewall. Here I
was reading about the necessity of forwarding ports on a hardware
firewall without realizing OS X was doing the same thing, albeit via
software. Many thanks for opening my eyes.
