1) If I replace my RAM with two by one GB chips, would this relieve my
problem of the computer slowing to a crawl with many apps open?
My free MemoryStick app will reveal whether this "slowing to a crawl"
corresponds to moments of memory shortage.
Activity Monitor will reveal if "slowing to a crawl" is due to a rogue
app sucking up CPU time.
2) Would buying these chips give me a major speed boost even if I had
one intensive app open due to the switch to 128 bit?
Not major. The bus capacity will double which means that certain data
will move around faster internally. m.
Thanks, Matt. I downloaded Memory Stick and read the Help file. I will
keep my eye on it as problems with speed might develop. No longer have
the interest or cerebal retention for command line interfaces, whether
they are MS-DOS or Unix.

I never noticed that my MacMini was kinda slow until I got 2 GB RAM
installed. WOW, what a difference. I sent a note to all my colleages
that I am now recommending 2 GB RAM for Mac OS X (I have an Intel
processor) for everyone. You will not know how fast your processor can
go until you give it full reins.- Hide quoted text -

I should have mentioned that I went from 1 GB to 2. I don't open 10
apps at a time, just Mail, Safari, TextEdit, Graphic Converter,
iPhoto, and iTunes most of the time. Sometimes iMovie, and rarely
iDVD.
