Can't your mailer filter on the reference? You would have to kill any
article referring to an article from the same provider, but if that
provider accepts abuse at that level I rather kill all threads from
that provider than having to live with the non-sense that people like

You both have good points, and I sometimes wrestle with what's the right course. It'd be ideal if everyone simply ignored such posts entirely, but with those extensively crossposted, there's always an idiot, newbie or sock that'll reply, resulting sometimes in enormous threads.
Of course we can kf the thread, the people, the IP, etc. but then that leaves only relatively sophisticated folks reading the group, and as we all know, we die, we move on, we lose interest, we get cheesed off, etc. So I try to throw a little water on the fires that certain cretins try to start, sometimes successfully, sometimes not. I don't claim to know the right answer, as there seem to always be tradeoffs.
