hi guys and gals. just wondering what everyones two-bits regarding
applescript may be. i have been studying python as a first programming
language, and have been wondering if applescript might be a more
realistic and better suited solution for me. i dont necessarily need to
write my own programs, just want to learn for enjoyments sake. i dont
mean or want to start a comparison of python and applescript, as i know
there is absolutely no basis to that. the python reference was
arbitrary. any online information regarding learning applescript for
beginners that you found useful would be great. thanks. bryan
I wrote a book on AppleScript and I *still* wouldn't recommend that you
learn it unless you need the special thing it does, namely, to send
messages to "scriptable" applications (such as iTunes or InDesign) to
drive them remotely.
If you are just learning programming and want to learn a clean modern
language, Python or Ruby are both excellent choices. If you want to
write applications (something with a user interface), that would be
Cocoa (and probably Objective-C, even though there are Python and Ruby
bridges). m.
Matt, just out of curiosity, where would you place RealBasic within your
comments about programming languages for beginners?
