I have a B&W Mac G3 400, 1 Gig RAM, original ATI graphics card,
Pioneer DVR-R100 internal DVD/CD Writer(SuperDrive)and I am running
Panther, OSX 10.3.9.
There seems to be no way I can play a movie on a DVD or from the
Internet using either QuickTime or Windows Media Player.
I assume the reason must be that my computer system is too slow.
So my questions are:
1. Is the assumption correct that my system is simply unable to
handle movies?
2. Can my G3 be upgraded in any way that will solve the problem?
3. Or must I get a different Mac in order to accomplish this, and,
if so, how far up the line do I need to go?
Thanks for any help or advice.
We have a very similar config to yours (B&W G3 400, 640MB RAM,
DVD-ROM, OS X 10.3.9) and it plays movies from DVD just fine. It
doesn't use QuickTime or WMP, though; there's a program called DVD
Player that Apple includes with the system software. Like many Apple
programs, it's simple to use, if not the most full-featured.
What exactly happens when you stick a DVD in the machine?
Nothing at all. I'll download the programs others have suggested and see
what happens.
When I do this, DVD Player starts automagically.
An internet movie plays but it is very jerky.
That is why I thought my computer might be too slow.
