Return the printer to whereever they bought it and have them buy a
printer that has drivers for MacOS X. You can see what printers are
supported by going to the Apple web site and clicking on the Apple
Store Tab. Any printer there should work.

That will not happen it will be the Mac that goes (That is a shame). My
mom is already weary on learning a new OS and also the printer is over
30 days old and they bought it from Sam's Club. I was hoping for some
generic driver support (I think is call Gimp) that would be able to
opperate this printer as it seems to work very well for HP printers.
and I was looking forward t not having to be her windows support any
more :(

If I were in your shoes (and I have been) I would buy my Mom a new
printer as a gift, and take the lexmark away to be flogged on eBay or
craigslist.

You will recoup your costs almost instanter.
