You are probably accidentally hitting the keyboard combination that
makes them appear. You have the choice to turn this off if you want to.
Open System preferences and use Keyboard and Mouse.
You reconfigure which widgets appear on your screen by clicking on the
round circle with the plus mark in it that is in the lower left corner
of your screen when the widgets are active.
