Hello all. I have a really dumb question here. I don't know anything
about Macs but I have a friend who uses Internet Explorer on his iMac
and wants to disable the pop-up blocker. I have no idea what pop-up
blocker is on his computer. Any guesses or suggestions as to how to
find out what he is running so I can help him turn it off?
Well, first friends don't let friends use Internet Explorer! Especially
on the Mac as it is an outdated browser and there are many superior
alternatives- Camino, Firefox and Safari to name three free browsers
(that's assuming this Mac is running OS X; there are fewer options if
running OS 9 or earlier).
But if he insists... turn off the popup blocker under Explorer's
Preferences menu item, as I recall. It's been years since I've looked
at Explorer. It really sucks.
Yeah, actually, last time I looked at IE it didn't HAVE a pop-up
blocker. My guess is, whatever site he's using is saying "turn off
your pop-up blocker" whenever something weird happens, and IE just
doesn't support the site very well, so he gets the message, but there's
still no pop-up blocker in IE.
