Help-Can't Reinstall iTunes

Recently I purchase an external drive and moved all my apps and docs on
it. I connected them both back to the internal hard drive by means of
aliases. It seemed to work O.K. except that if I wanted to download any
new apps I end up downloading it to the internal hard drive and then
move to the external one--double amount of work. I became used to this
since I don't really know how to change it to default. But now I must
have mess up things badly. I must have, inadvertently, removed iTunes.
So I decided to download iTunes from the Apple website and start over
again.

When I started the installation process, at the state of selecting the
destination drive I clicked on the internal drive and then I got the
message, "You cannot continue. There is nothing to install."

So I decided to reinstall the operating system from the disk that came
with computer. When I got to the stage of installing the system, there
is a sign on both hard drives indicating that I can't install on neither.

I hope that someone in this group can advice me how I can fix this ***
up. Thanks in advance.
