I have a SC740 at home. I brought over my LaCie HD (10.3.9) plugged it
into the FW port; rebooted off the my LaCie system, and printed with no
problem at all. When in her system, I could go into the utilities and
print out a nozzle check without a problem. I just could print
documents.

I went into her system and trashed any plist I could find related to
printing. I trashed all the 740 drivers and replaced them with the
LaCie drivers. I trashed the SC740 utility window (where the queue is
shown) in her user folder and replaced it with one from the LaCie. I
set up a bogus account in her system and tried to print. Interestingly,
the queue showed the dox from her regular account, and the problem
remained.

Off course I rebooted the system many times and unplugged and replugged
the USB cable. Since the printer is fine when driven from a system on
an external HD, the problem lies in her system.

Does anyone have a clue what else I can try?

For this type of problem I usually delete the printer from the Print Center,
and then reinstall from the same location. Another thing, you might try
updating the OS 10.4.0 is the very first version of Tiger. Updating the OS
might be worthwhile. Even if it doesn't fix the print issue.
