I have a home network and I am trying to connect from my Mac to a share
on my Windows machine. When I use the 'connect to server' dialog box
the Mac always tries to use AFP to connect. Even if I specify SMB (by
using smb://ipaddress) it tries to use AFP (by trying to connect to
afp://smb://ipaddress - which obviously won't work)
Is there a way that I can stop the Mac from trying to use AFP?
Thanks
Is your Mac looking in the correct Windows Workgroup?
Applications -> Utilities -> Directory Access
SMB/CIFS -> Workgroup
You may need to click on the padlock in the lower left hand corner.
I think the XP home edition uses MSHOME as the workgroup, and XP
Pro uses Workgroup as the workgroup. Don't quote me, as I'm more
of a Mac and UNIX type dude, and do not really have much first
hand Windows and Windows networking experience.
