Re: Moving files in Finder = Hell

I'm moving lots of files around in Finder and finding it is a torture.
Icon View wastes space so that cannot be considered. If I want cartoons
I'll turn on the cartoon channel on TV.
List View doesn't allow the full length of the name to be displayed even
though there's lots of space available if one doesn't have it display
multiple columns. Then when you go UP in List View it leaves List View.
What do you mean by "go UP in List View?"
Say you're in Folder B which is in Folder B. You fix Folder B and then
want to see Folder A. That's what I mean. When I use Command+Up Arrow
it sends me to Column View. If I'm in List View I just want to stay in
List View until I choose to leave List View.
WHAT? Did I tell it to leave that view? NO! What's the point of that?
... they are cascaded to the right and down a bit - so you have to move them back to get at the || thing at the
bottom when in Column View.
This has got to be the worst abomination of software ever created for
the mainstream public. What amazes me is the complacency of the average
Mac user that just takes it up the ass and says nothing.
I swear Apple must have caused more CTS than anybody else on the planet.
Mouse, mouse, mouse....does Steve Jobs bow down to a mouse? Keyboard
tab function Apple = speed and flexibility. Learn it and implement it!
So often I'm stuck somewhere and have to use the mouse where just a tab
would bring me to an area where I can continue rapidly with the
keyboard. Mice suck! They always slow you down.
That last sentence is patently untrue. The mouse is faster than the
keyboard for a large number of tasks.
Name one task that is faster on the mouse than the keyboard please.
I'm wondering what you're running
into that you think tab would help. (Largely because there may, in fact,
be a key combination for what you want to do, but it may not be what you
think it is by default.)
How about the Menu Bar. In Windows Alt+V gets me to View in most apps.
Everything under View has a letter so by using Alt+V+X in word
processing apps I can instantly change text size. In Mac I have to do a
left handed contortion (Control+F2) then use the arrow keys to hobble
over to View, then Arrow Down to hit Zoom or Text size. Why can't they
just put a letter beside ever function? Its so easy. But they want us
for some inexplicable reason to use the mouse.
Because the people that designed the keyboard should have put the
numeric keyboard (which 99% of people never use properly) on the
opposite side of the keyboard of the mouse so you don't have to hop over
that thing ever time.
Uh. The people who designed the keyboard should have put the numeric
keypad and cursor control keys on the opposite side from the mouse?
1) The mouse doesn't have "a side."
90% of the world is right handed. So for 90% of the world the mouse is
on the right side of the keyboard.
2) The keys you want moved have been where they are since well before
mice appear in mainstream installations.
Who cares? Move them! Give people a choice. If you're right handed
move the numeric keypad to the left or throw it away - and you could
choose to move the arrow keys to the left too.
It must be nice to be left handed. Even the
arrow keys should be on the opposite side. OR - and this would take a
mountain of brain work for those design idiots - have the numeric and
arrow areas be able to clip in to either side so the user can choose
what they want to hop over to get at the mouse hundreds or thousands of
times a day.
I've heard of right handed people even converting to using the mouse
with their left hand to do that. Quite a big hurdle for most people.
