How to Permanently change window options in Finder?

I've searched this on Google and in Help (maybe I missed something).
I want to be able to set my folders (permanently) to either open with or
without a tool bar and/or in column or other view. But when I hide the
tool bar, close the folder and reopen it, the toolbar is there again.
How do I make changes permanent?
Just a pointer to a web site is good enough.
Thank you.
