Mac Mini's internal modem
I have a 1.25 gHz Mini with Tiger and the internal V.92 modem. My ISP
provides V.90.
Sometimes Activity shows that my data flow has slowed way down, making
it worthwhile to hang up and redial. Is it a feature of V.90 that
transient problems can cause it to go to a lower speed and stay there?
Is that also true of V.92? Is there a way for me to see at a glance
if my modem has negotiated a reduced speed?
Sometimes if I'm online I'll notice the system is using about 25% of my
CPU time although no data is flowing. This will continue after I quit
all applications, until I disconnect from the internet. What would
cause a modem to use so much CPU time with no data flowing?
