I've got a recently occurring quirk over on our iMac G5 and I'm
wondering if someone can perhaps explain it, and maybe even tell me how
to make it stop.
Some time ago I downloaded Apple's CHUD tools (4.3.2) for developers and
installed them on my PowerBook G4. When I finished, I connected to my
account on the iMac G5 and copied the DMG file there. Later I went to
it and logged in, mounted the DMG and installed the CHUD tools, then
unmounted it. Finally, I dragged it to an archive folder where I keep
numerous installers and other files of this type.
Not long after, I ran Disk Utility to repair permissions, as I often do
after installing Apple software. I now find that the left side of the
display includes not only the iMac's built-in drive but a separate entry
for CHUD_4.3.2.dmg. Why is this present? Did I somehow do something to
cause this? And can someone tell me what I might do to remove it?
Last answer first: Just drag it out of the window.
It seems that DU just likes to keep track of any DMG it finds out about
that it can still find at launch.
That was my only question...and I'm a bit surprised it's quite that
simple. I wonder why I didn't think to try that before. :-)
I've actually got quite a number of DMG files in the same location as
that one. I'm curious what prompted DU to keep it there and not some
other one. Maybe it really was mounted when I launched DU and I just
didn't recall it.
Anyway, that's the solution. Many thanks.
